Caffarel Piemonte assorted ballotin are the ideal gift for lovers of hazelnut chocolates. Each box contains an assortment of milk and dark chocolate Italian gianduja treats studded with roasted hazelnuts. 

Caffarel made the first ever Gianduia in 1865. It was the time of the Risorgimento, or ‘resurgence’, which led to the eventual unification of all Italy. The import of luxury goods was limited by the government, and this included cocoa. Caffarel came up with the idea of replacing some of the cocoa in their confectionery with local Piedmont hazelnuts, known as some of the finest hazelnuts in the world. They named their new creation after the comedia dell’arte character, Gianduja, who represents the Piedmont region.
