Terre Exotique’s star anise brings heady, aniseed flavours to stocks, marinades and mulled wine. Star anise comes from the eight-pointed pericarp of the fruit of the Illicium verum tree which grows in four provinces of China. It is harvested twice a year, then left to dry in the sun – all stages of production are done by hand.  

Ground star anise is a key ingredient in Chinese 5-spice mix, however you can also use it whole as a way to infuse flavour into broths, stocks and curries. Alternatively, pair star anise with plums, figs and pears to make spiced chutneys and fruit compotes.
